    What's the difference between SOT-23 package and SOT-323 package in SMT (Surface Mounted Transistors)? How does them look the same? How to distinguish them?


    the main difference between SOT-23 package and SOT-323 package is the size difference.  If put them together, the main body of SOT-323 is shorter and SOT-23 is longer. Compared with SOT-23, SOT-323 is much smaller; furthermore, the foot spacing of SOT-323 is also different, and SOT-323 is narrower than SOT-23.


    To know more about this package, we would like to draw your attention that SOT is a surface mounted package with pins less than or equal to 5 small leads transistors. Such as SOT-23, SOT-323, SOT-523, SOT-223,SOT-23-3 and so on.


    Small Outline Transistor (SOT) packages are very small dimensions, usually are plastic-molded packages with more than 3 leads on their two long sides. Due to their low cost and low profile, SOT's are commonly used in consumer electronics. The SOT-23 and the SC-70 packages are two of the most widely used SOT packages nowadays.


    In electronics, packaging not only plays the role of installing, fixing, sealing, protecting chips and enhancing the electrothermal performance, but also connects the contacts on the chips to the pins of the package shell by wires. These pins are connected with other devices through wires on the printed circuit board, thus realizing the connection between the internal chip and the external circuit. Because the chip must be isolated from the outside world to prevent the corrosion of the chip circuit caused by impurities in the air, resulting in the decline of electrical performance. On the other hand, the encapsulated chip is more convenient to install and transport.

WEET Tells You How to Test a SF38G Ultra-Fast Recovery Rectifiers Easily

    Seven Main steps required for testing of a diode rectifier are as follows. Suggested by WEET engineer group.


    1, Choose a superior quality digital multi-meter, which is very important. Good sensitivity and accuracy counts a lot in testing period.

    2, Fix the testing range in the diode position. You need to check both terminal are set in proper position and connected well.

    3, On the display you are supposed to easily get a 3 or an infinite voltage reading depending upon the multi-meter used

    4, Correctly connect the red probe to the cathode and the black probe to the anode of the rectifier. 

    5, The digital multi-meter display will show the low forward voltage drop (rectifier diode) of around 0.6 volts at once

    6, Now reverse the connections, the display will return to its original reading, which indicating that the diode is a good condition

    7, If the meter displays any other reading, the diode may be leaky or faulty while a 0000 reading means a short circuit.

WEET Shares You How to Choose A Suitable Diode for Your Electronic Circuit

    The voltage drop in a diode is usually the same taking no account of the size or current rating.  In this way, the power dissipated will generally be the same.  


    Diodes are electronic one-way valves, letting current flow in one direction but not the reverse. If you’re designing a circuit that uses them, you’ll need to know they have limits. They can handle a rated maximum current, and if you exceed this limit you’ll destroy the part. They also have a reverse voltage limit, past which they will start conducting, possibly with damaging results. And diodes come in several different physical case styles, with leads (DIP)or in a surface-mount (SMD) case. 


    In case you are going to select a diode, which rated much higher than your calculated maximums, it will work absolutely well in your circuit but it may be expensive and physically large. Small packages are favorable these days, such as SMAF package. If you use diodes that match or fit between your minimum and maximum ratings, they will work safely and will cost down for you.
